Review | The Retreat by Mark Edwards

Rating: 4/5 stars

Oddly enough, I was at an Inn while listening to The Retreat. I was looking over my shoulder every five minutes and couldn’t concentrate on anything other than this amazing story. Edwards is a new-to-me author, but I’m kicking myself for not finding his books sooner.

The Retreat is full of twists and turns and if you’re not constantly second guessing yourself, you’re reading it wrong. I thought I knew what happened, I was wrong. I made assumptions as to who was responsible, if anyone at all, and I was wrong about that as well. The chill factor and thorough story-telling made this a story I’ll never forget.

As a mother, I felt for Julia. The denial that must take hold of you once you’ve lost a child is likely indescribable, but if I were in her shoes, I’d have thought the same.

No body? No proof that she’s dead? Then she must be alive.

You’ll have to read The Retreat for yourself to see if Julia was your typical grief-stricken parent or if she’d been right all along.

This is an edge-of-your-seat kind of story, one that you will recommend time and time again.

  1. I have never read anything by Mark Andrews but I’m always looking for new thriller authors to keep me on my toes. I love when a book really creeps you out that you find yourself on edge. I feel not many thrillers do that. I will be adding this to my TBR.

  2. I want to read this. I keep hearing it’s very good. When I discover a new great author I start investigating their backlist to see what I’ve missed.😃
I really enjoyed your succinct, spoilerless review.😊
